Call Me Nathan
This graphic novel is the true story of a French teen of trans experience going through his transition. Deeply moving and intimate, Nathan’s story is one everyone needs to hear now more than ever. While trans folk will see themselves in Nathan, the graphic novel is an accessible entry into the subject matter for those who may not know what it means to be trans and want to/need to educate themselves. Catherine Castro’s words paired with Quentin Zuttion’s incomparable artistry create a piece of art that tears down barriers and perfectly shares Nathan’s story with the reader. Translating this story has helped me with my own gender euphoria and I hope everyone who reads it in English will feel the same way.

We only live twice… The person who embodies that phrase more than anyone is the author of this heartfelt trans man’s diary. Adel Tincelin has become a cherished part of my own life story and I am energized to disseminate his work to English readers.

written by Olivier Py, Les Parisiens is an epic coming of age story of various queer voices in Paris. In a flat on the rue du Temple, the handful of young voices are cast in the crucible that is Paris, expanding and hardening philosophies in the process.

What a title, no? I am so in love with Thomas Raphaël’s comedic take on life and how so much has happened in his life that resonates with my own. I am sure any reader will find this book just as easygoing and hilarious as I did. I hope my translation will help it reach a wider audience!

La chair de l’araignée
This graphic novel really spoke to me on many levels and translating it only made me cherish it even more. Hitting many notes of a bleak artistic symphony: anorexia, homosexuality, transgender, body dysmorphia, being lonely and lost, finding a soul sibling that can only further your distress and spiraling… a light read!
Satanie
A graphic novel from the fabulous team of Vehlmann and Kerascoët, Satanie is about a young girl on the perilous search for her brother. Unique and visceral, Satanie creates its own mythology through Kerascoët’s artwork and Vehlmann’s clever Candide-like story knocked up to and eleven. This work has already been translated into English, but I am placing it on this list because it was the gateway to my interest in graphic novel translation.
